Top assembly for chest of drawers

I have two 10" wide boards that I can join together to get an 18" top, something tells me that I would be better off making the boards into four boards while the lazy side of me says two boards joined would be just fine. Opinions welcomed. Board is about 1" thick if that matters. Lorraine

    Construction of 1/2" plywood drawers

I would appreciate suggestions for 1/2" plywood drawers. I will add a false front of red oak once the drawers are glued up. Thanks Lorraine

Shaker Chest of Drawers Finished. (Pics) Have a Look

I built this chest for my son, out of Philippine mahogany using mortise and tenon joinery. We both like its vertical orientation. At 52 ¼” high it’s a tall dresser. The original plans called for four smaller drawers topside, but per his request, I modified them down to only two. He...

    Dovetails and drawers...

Just a simple question, do you guys/gals mostly use half blind or through DTs on simple drawers? Is there a particular reason for the choice you make? Just curious, thanks! Oh, not sure if this matters but these drawers will be euro-style with hardwood faces attached.

    Chest of Drawers

Most of this pine came from Lowes at bargain prices. I used flooring that was marked down-I will never do this again-too much work. This was my first chest of drawers so pine was a good choice.

Faceframe for red oak plywood chest of drawers

I have put my kitchen remodel on hold to take a break. I have a red oak chest of drawers that I started with my brother several years ago that I would like to finish. It is a Norm Abram pattern, I have lost the plans and can't find them on his site. The sides and rails are all plywood. The...

    Solid cherry chest of drawers

I am going to Danville this week for extra 1/4 inch cherry for my cabinet doors. I would like to price plywood for future chest of drawers. What is normal thickness of side panels for chest? Would 1/4 be too thin, I think 3/4 maybe too thick. Lorraine

    My drawers are too tight

I have gotten all of my drawers glued up and assembled for my dresser, and the first one I have fitted is too tight. Not by much mind you but maybe a 1/16" side to side. So, since I have hand planes, I figured I would plane them a little, but if you do that, how in the heck do you hold the...

    Drawers (Dovetails or Drawer Locks?)

Seeking opinions on choice of joinery on drawers for kitchen cabinets. I use dovetails on my furniture but have noticed bits for drawer locks. I will have many drawers to assemble in my cabinet project including slide out drawers within some of the lower cabinets. I guess once the dovetails...

    Bathroom Vanity (DRAWERS ADDED)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I told my wife that I wanted to work in the shop this week as I had not done much out there lately. This a long over due project, so it seemed like a logical choice. I drew up the plans from scratch using a pre-formed top as a guide to dimensions. It will have a single bowl solid surface top on...

Is a dust insert necessary in a chest of drawers?

When I made my nightstand I put a solid bottom underneath the cabinet before attaching the legs. In this larger piece I have attached a frame on all four sides but it isn't solid. Please explain why this may need to be solid. I will take the picture of the underside and put it in the galley...

    Chest of Drawers Update

Ok, guys and gals, I figured it is time for an update on the chest of drawers progress. WG - Chest of Drawers Update

Well, I didn't get any time to really work on the chest this weekend. I was working on other projects that needed to get out of the shop. I had a few RPs to make for my recent cabinet job. They were for components that weren't installed yet. Got to put the new shaper to use. :) Here is a...

Chest of Drawers - Box is complete

Well after doing over 60 mortises something like 20 sliding dovetails and cutting something close to 70 pieces the chest is finally glued up. Now you can actually see all 24 drawer boxes. It is finally starting to take shape beyond just a huge box. Here is a quick pic. I was chatting with...

    Opinions about Drawers.

Boxers or Briefs???? Just kidding. I have still yet to make anything with drawers in it... I am very curious about how much of a pain they are to install. Dawn

Solid Wood Chest of Drawers (80" long x 48" tall) :D

Well, I've moved into working on my next commissioned peice. It is a solid wood chest of drawers. The primary wood is genuine mahogany with maple drawers and some poplar used for dust frames. The peice will be 48" tall 80" long and 22" deep with 24 drawers and a section for A/V equipment. A...

    Kitchen drawers

Here are some shots of the drawers that I made over the Christmas week. There are 11 drawers of different sizes, all made out of 1/2" cherry with 1/4" bottoms. The drawers have through dovetails and will soon be covered with walnut fronts. I went with undermount slides to leave the DT's exposed...
