I have an order for 260 fan birds (see picture below). So, I am in need of a clear section of cypress or white cedar (not red cedar). It needs to have been cut within the last couple months, be at least 8" in diameter and be from part of the trunk. I'm willing to pay for it and to drive a...
Among the many, MANY things that I want to build for the house and family, a new table and chairs for the back porch ranks pretty high.
I'm thinking the table will be something like 4'x6' or so, and have four chairs. While I'm at it I would also love to build a couple Adirondack chairs.
So I...
I'm building a couple of cypress planter boxes for the LOML. Is TiteBond II an acceptable glue for cypress (oily wood?) and this intended application or should I consider Gorilla glue? :dontknow:
Most likely we'll end up putting potting soil directly into the planter boxes instead of plastic...
Any local sawyers near WS, Greensboro, High Point? I need someone who can deliver on a short flatbed truck (residential neighborhood). Any ideas?
Thanks.
I'm needing to cut plugs for the Adirondacks, and currently have two plug cutters. One is from a BORG, maker long forgotten, and it doesn't cut, it chews the cypress. I purchased this BORG cutter to plug screwholes in the oak flooring, and after cutting about four, decided that for a workshop...
But it was for a good cause. I got some cypress from Rick DiNardo this week and I put paint on it!
All was not in vain though. The cypress turned into four window boxes for my storage building and my little shop. Then they turned into Christmas planters:wink_smil. This is the start of our...
I picked up about 800 bf of the prettiest cypress today at Ivey's place that I've ever gotten from him. Didn't really need it, but like Bas, "I just wanted it." And the price was right. Yeah, I know, "no pics" but that's not what I'm posting about.
If any of you are looking for some truly...
I'm looking for some cypress in the Raleigh area, I only want 50-100 bd/ft of 4/4. Traveling no more than 45 minutes if possible.
Thank you in advance.
This is the result of my last few days in the shop. Now I got to take it apart and start sanding. I will use a marine grade varnish to finish . It goes to the local Garden Club for thier fund raising auction. More when finished.
Here's what 1100+ bf of the prettiest, clearest, 1" cypress looks like! Picked this up today from ol' Ivey P. down at Beaver Branch Sawmill. This is truly some nice lumber.
Ivey also had some of the prettiest juniper sawed I've seen. Clear, no knots, and smells great! (Juniper is what...
It has finally cooled down enough for me to do some shop work so I started this table to be used on the deck at our beach house. Maybe I can actually set down a cool beverage once in a while now:rotflm: The top is two rings that sandwitch the slats in place. The bottom will have stretchers and...
Hi all,
Has anyone out there used Hardie-plank siding before? I'm deciding between hardi-plank (painted "country lane red") and oiled cypress (natural finish) for my new barn. The Hardie-plank is somewhat less expensive up front (about $3700 for pre-finished cypress; about $2700 for...
I'm building a couple of folding cypress bar stools/deck chairs for my son and his wife who are living in Virginia Beach.
I'm considering leaving the cypress totally unfinished since the wood should eventually take on a natural pewter grey after sitting outside in the sun, rain, and salt air...
:wsmile:Finished up most of the details on the solar kiln today and went ahead and put in the first charge of lumber. This is 7/4 cypress from Ivey and is in 6' lengths.
The wiring is temporary, but the timer and fans are running OK and the air movement through the stack is good. Still...
I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get rough-sawn cedar or cypress? I'm in need of some to use as trim on a backyard shed that I'm getting ready to build. I got a price from the local lumberyard on the cedar for 1x6 at $1.46 a linear foot, but I'm hoping that there's a better deal...
