    Nail Gun question

Built some shop stuff and faced them with some real thin ply attached with a nail gun. It left some pretty visible tiny rectangular divots where the nails entered. I'm not too worried since its in my garage and I built them for practice but am wondering what I need to do to get the almost...

    Picnic question

This is mainly for ScottM but I'll post it here rather than do the PM thing. I just saw, and clicked on, the picnic banner and read the thread announcing the picnic. When I spoke with the park & recretion dept. about booking the Chapel Hill site, I didn't think about the possibility of a lumber...

    Shopsmith motor question

Okay folks, this is a gloat and a sob story rolled into one. My brother and I have been remodeling my mom's house for the past six months. Complete tearout...only studs left when we started refinishing. My mom felt bad, because we have spent probably 5 hours a day for six months after our other...

    Silly Shop Vac Question...

So I was running through Home Depot for 'Black Friday' today and decided $20 for a Ridgid shop-vac was too good to pass up even though I already have 3 in the shop. Started looking for the bags for the unit and couldn't find the correct one. Decided to ask someone where they were and he said I...

I have a Ridgid TS2412 tablesaw. I need to tilt the blade to 45 degrees and can only get it to move maybe 5 degree if that much. I am cutting legs for a nightstand. I have used this tablesaw for two other pieces of furniture so I know it was set up properly before. I have unlocked the tilt...

    Small Engine Question

My riding mower won't turn over when starting. It is acting like the battery but both Auto Zone and Batteries Plus say it is good. Batteries Plus actually tested it under load. It is not the solenoid, I took a jumper cable direct from battery to starter. It will start if I jump it off a car...

Wood flooring - follow up to nailing question

A few days ago there was a post asking about using a finish nailer for flooring. The collective wisdom was that a manual or compressed air assisted nailer was the right/best way to do this. I have read through those answers, but I have a different case. I am using knotty pine 'flooring' (5...

    Wood Question

Okay, friend of mine at work inquired of me today about getting him some wood to make a guitar with. :dontknow: Seems he's wanting to make his own instrument and was asking me if I had anything he could use. Nailing Question

Here's my question of the day; What size nails do you think I need to install the furring strips onto the trusses in my shop? :dontknow: Yesterday, I used a nail gun that must weigh 20 lbs, shooting 8d ring shanks. I'm thinking this is overkill, (mainly cause this thing is killing...

    A question I've had for a while

Didn't want to hijack the latest thread in moderation so I'll start here anew. In instances where a thread is very likely to take a bad turn would it be beneficial to chime in as a moderator and remind folks to be careful not to go overboard with extreme opinions or examples? As I said in...
