I finally decided to cut my trees down myself. I figured it was wide open enough, and I read everything I could find on the subject. Here's the result:
The one tree is a cedar for sure:
But I am not sure what the other one is. Any help?
Whatever is it, it looks like it...
Well, 37 years after my Great Grandfather passed, I finally got the last of my inheritance - a 50 ft. Wardmast'r Nickel Plated Steel Measuring Tape in the original box from Monkey Ward.
Anyone have any advice on determining the vintage? There aren't any dates on anything.
Here's a spoon carved from Basswood.
You can see it better if you enlarge it. I didn't want to change the color because I wanted you to see it as white as it is. My last attempt at staining was pretty disastrous. I'd appreciate suggestions about how to finish it.
I finally made it to Washington to pick up the walnut from Alan. I had a great visit with Alan and the full tour of his shop. His shop and especially some of the modifications he made to his machines is something to see. If you get a chance to visit, Alan is a great host. I got the walnut back...

Anyway it has lots...
I've cut up several logs since I got my saw mill and I'm finally getting around to looking through some of my stacks outside. I really didn't take time to identify a lot of what I milled; I just cut and stacked it for air drying. Here's another chunk of wood, it's about 6" wide and the end grain...
Here are two of the four quilt block intarsia pieces I'm working on. They are not glued up so they have not been tightly aligned yet.Comments appreciated.

Here is a new shape for me out of cherry that is 4 1/2" in diameter and 2 3/4" tall. Gotta...
