    Big Sign Finished Product

My boss gave me the day off with the promise that I would make him a sign for our work center. I made this in just under 7 hours so it was a pretty good deal, I would much rather fool around in my shop than fix aircraft any day! It is supposed to look be designed after old fashioned...

    Big Sign for work

My boss told me that I can have a day off if I can make a gigantic sign for our workcenter. The sign will have to say "CANN DOCK" it needs to be about 6 feet long. I was thinking about using MDF to route the letters, and then painting everything black with white border and white letters...

Shop pal in the big workshop in the sky

On Friday Tina and I had to do the hardest thing of our life. We had to put to sleep our 17 year old shop buddy and all around friend Carney. He had recently lost his sight and hearing and started losing weight. We waited as long as we could but it had to happen. Our family is taken this very...

Is it big enough for the job?

There has been a Craftsman twin tank air compressor on CL for a couple weeks. Owner said "engine (motor?) was OK, but pump was bad. It was being sold as a "parts machine" for $25. When he closed drain on bottom of the tank, motor would slow down to a crawl, and then stop. Went over and looked at...

    A BIG Stump

Well, I've been rather busy the last few weekends and evenings working on a stump that I cut a tree off last year. While cutting it I ran into some barbed wire that I didn't see beforehand so I left it be for a time. You can see one of the wires hanging out in the above pic from earlier this...

Air too big, Ceilings too tall

Well they're not exactly woodworking tools, but I have to take them when I can. Got a big ol' CH air compressor because my air was too big and an HVLP gun to shoot varnish at my boat. My neighbor suggests pex tubing for distribution. Anybody got any experience with that (a different neighbor...

How The Big Boys Do It

:D Man I was on my way home from work today and passed this sawmill that I just had to turn around and go back to. Talked with the owner (Sam), an old Timer and very Friendly Gentelman. He said if ya had a hard hat you could walk thru and look around. I said "hey Sam I got a hardhat!! I had...

Get time on your big, slow drill press in Raleigh?

My little drill press has met its match...in the form of a rosette cutter. The press doesn't go anywhere near slow enough and there is far, far too much slop in the spindle. The results are a bit frightening. Would anyone let me cut a couple rosettes on their press? Recommended speed is <250 rpm.

    a BIG turning project!

Hi, Its been a long time since I posted anything here, I haven't turned much lately. My friend Chris who is the manager of Advantage Lumber in Grover, NC. called me yesterday asking me if I could do some turning for a customer of his, I told him that my lathe is way to small for this project...

    A whack of big logs!

This past Saturday one of our fellow North Carolina Woodworker members really made my day. Ivey Pridgen called me and told me that he had picked up some rather large oak logs from a local loggers deck, and figured that I'd be interested in them. You bet I'm interested! It's always great to...

    New member from Big Woods

Hi all, looks like a good bunch of folks here, hopefully I won't bring down the average. I'm still working full time (God willing, 4 more years ;-) so won't be on daily or anything, but I'll try to do my part to give help as well as get it. I'm sort of an all-around woodworker (as my bio...
