Hello All, you know who you are.

My name is Jim, I live in Hillsborough and I am addicted to wood.

I am the proud steward of a late 70's Shopsmith Mark V 500 (and a few other machines).

I have "pioneered" quite an elaborate and long winded approach to take the rocking out of a Craftsman RAS arm.

Love hand tools and techniques. Recently tried my first scrub plane but had to stop as I ran out of wood! Electrolysis and derusting happen to also be something I seem to do a lot. Why didn't someone tell me about hide glue sooner???

I also have an unhealthy addiction to WW videos. You may notice my posts have lots of video references.

On another note, I am a coffee home roaster. I use the infamous "Heatgun/Dogbowl" method. Good coffee is like a fine piece of wood. Just makes life just that much better!

Welcome Jim,

Glad you decided to become part of the family. I knew a guy who bought a Shopsmith and to this day, I don't think he has ever turned it on. Course he may not still have it but when I found out he had it, I doubted he would ever do anything with it. Anyway, moderation is the key (coffee), caffeine will give you the hebee jeebies.:rolf: Look forward to seeing some of your work. If you click on the button "Other Links" in the upper right hand corner, you can request a photo gallery for your pictures. I too have a Craftsman RAS but don't know what you mean by rocking. ????

Welcome aboard! You have found the correct self-help group for folks addicted to wwing. Unfortunately this group's recovery methodology is ususally moving toward the source of addiction rather than avoiding it. After all, more is better! Seriously, we are glad you found out site. You'll find us to be a friendly group. Please request a photo album and post pictures of some of your work. We kind of live by the philosphy that if there are no pictures it didn't happen  .

Welcome to the site Jim. Admitting you have a problem is the first step. Of course, I wouldn't know cause I don't have a problem. :eusa_liar
As Cathy said, we can help, but our treatments usually involve large heavy tool purchases. (Tools that take a truck to haul is good, tools that take a tractor-trailer are better).

I look forward to seeing some of your work. We have quite a few hand tool fans here. I'll let them introduce themselves.

Welcome I am going to have to find out more about the coffee bean roasting. I can't seem to find commercial grinds with enough flavor for me. I need it jump out of the cup and slap me upside the head:eyeslam:

Welcome aboard. I too am a lover of coffee. But I learned to drink in the Navy. So my idea of "good" coffee is that will still pour.

Welcome aboard, Jim -- sounds like you've got the dust making bug and you're java savvy, too :drunken_s -- I used to live in Durham (we have several members from the area), but retired from a stressful job in RTP and moved to the mountains 2 years ago -- finally got a home with room for a decent shop and I'm making cabinets and built-ins for fun and profit -- we're looking forward to seeing your work, your shop and your coffee roaster -- around here, "No pics, it didn't happen!". Enjoy the forums -- we've got some great folks here!

Welcome aboard Jim as I sit here sipping my first cup of morning coffee. I got spoiled on a good cup of coffee while living/working in Germany. So I spent too much $$$ on a good self grinding single cup pressurized Italian coffee maker when we got back to the States. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

For those of us who may spend too much time in the shop already, and SWMBO is getting upset with that, check out Thanksgiving Coffee Company
They are located in Fort Bragg, CA, and make some divine coffees. My favorite is Pony Express a French roasted Robusta bean from Thailand, having 2.5 times the caffein of a regular cup. It feeds my addiction.

When I get the opportunity to visit Germany, I will buy mass quantities of Tchibo and Fed-Ex it back. yummie! Or perhaps I will save my trip to Europe, and just go here
