    Gluing to a painted surface?

I have some small wood letters that I need to attached a painted wood surface and was wondering about the best method to do so. Would basic wood glue work? The letters are too small (thin) for any type of nail, so glue would be my only option right? Dave

Gluing Walnut to Latex Painted Plywood

I've got some walnut circles (3" diameter) I'm going to glue to a freshly painted (latex) piece of plywood. I assume normal wood glue won't work well, unless I sand the paint off the area I am going to glue. If I decide not to sand it, should I just use gorilla glue or contact cement or would...

    Painted Carving

A couple of weeks ago, I asked for feedback on my first attempt at painting a carving and received some very good advice. Here is what I originally posted: It is part of a napkin holder pattern in the latest issue of Woodcarving Illustrated. I decided to tackle the whole piece. (I...

Need Exterior of House Painted - Recommendations?

I need to get the exterior of my house painted. I live in North Raleigh (near Wake Forest). I'm looking for someone who will pressure wash it prior to painting and who can/will make any necessary (minor) repairs, caulking, etc. I would consider doing it myself but the sides and back of my...

Re-using painted or poly coated wood???

Hey Everyone, Due to the Move we are thinking of selling our Maple butcher block kitchen table. But I was wondering if I just cut the table up and used it for Bowl turning, I'd have a lot of maple. It's 1 1/4" thick x 2" wide and some of the boards are the full length of the table 4' 6"...

    Personal recommendations for painted finish

I will go on record as hating to paint wood projects but I have a customer that wants her computer stand finished in a satin black. It is poplar and I haven't painted raw wood in any form in a long time.I was gonna spray it with conversion varnish but it's not big enough to justify the $40+ per...

    OMG, I Painted Cypress!!

But it was for a good cause. I got some cypress from Rick DiNardo this week and I put paint on it! All was not in vain though. The cypress turned into four window boxes for my storage building and my little shop. Then they turned into Christmas planters:wink_smil. This is the start of our...

    The black dragon oval

1/4 inch birch plywood on edge-joined basswood plaque. I cut the dragon out, painted it, because the plywood just looked ugly. And then had to figure out how to best mount it.

    Sanding Painted Doors????

I have an appt. tomorrow to look at 27 'old historic' doors that the customer needs sanded to be paint ready. Knowing there may well be lead issues and that it's important that the wood not be damaged, I'm asking what may be the best tools/method to approach this? I have a good variety of...

This morning I went and bought an oil based primer and paint for the vanity I have been working on. Planing painted lumber

I have a pine shelf that I pull out of our laundry room when we installed some cabinets for more organized storage.
