A co-worker has worked out his patterns for Adirondack chairs and asked me what type wood and finish to use.
I don't have experience with outdoor stuff...was thinking white oak or cypress?? Finish = I don't know.
What do you think?
Also, he lives in Raleigh but doesn't have...
I'm considering using green sawn eastern red cedar for the frame of an outdoor cabinet. I do not have a lot of experience woodworking and no experience with green lumber. Can I joint/plane this stuff? I'm not sure how "green" it is but I'll ask to get an idea the next time I talk to the seller...
I made a sketchup design for an outdoor cabinet to cradel my Big Green Egg (BGE) ceramic smoker. Not that I'm emotionally attached or anything!:rotflm: Anyway here is a link to the model in the Sketchup 3D warehouse. (I'm kinda new to sketchup ao I've also posted a note on the sketchup forum...
For those who might wonder, does he ever make anything?
I was asked to build a frame for my parents newly aquired porch swing.
The best part? The through holes for the bolts. They lined up. I just love a Shopsmith in horizontal boring mode!
This was also my first time using...
The economy is slow, but my mother-in-law's restaurant (a pancake franchise) is booming I guess ... so they went out and bought a boat and a house to go with it on the lake. Must be nice!
What did I get out of the deal? Well, some work. They wanted a few signs to adorn the "shack".:gar-La...
I built an outdoor table out of pressure treated pine. I was wondering what kind of finish to put on it to keep it looking good and prevent graying. I saw some General Finishes Outdoor oil at Klingspor. Does anyone know if theis is any good or should I use something else. Any thoughts or ideas...
Now that it's starting to get dark earlier, I am missing working outside. I especially like to sand outside. I was wondering if anyone ever used those outdoor worklights. Northern Tool has some for pretty cheap. Are they any good, or too many shadows and not worth the trouble?
I've been "ASKED" by SWMBO to build something for her Garden Club Annual Fund Raising Auction. I'm thinking about doing a bench in cypress since I have some and finish it with Marine varnish. I remember reading some where that you should soak the bottom of the legs in some kind of solution to...
About three weeks ago, I reported on progress I was making on a commissioned project for a branch of the UNC-Asheville called the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design. In this thread, I'll continue the shop work discussion and show how everything has come together for the two units I've...
Somebody wants me to join a few 2x8s so they can make an outdoor sign for their business. They brought the wood by this afternoon... untreated pine :dontknow:. Anywho... I figure I'll joint the boards and then use double stacked #20 biscuits and TB III. Whatch'all think? :eusa_thin
My in laws want me to make a sign for their place at the beach. What kind of wood would you suggest? This will be outside, salt air, probably no sun as it will be under an alcove.
Thanks in advance.
Can I use pressure treated wood for outdoor furniture? I need to make a chaise and a couple of tables for the deck. I'd use cedar but I never see 2 by or 4 by at the borg. It seems like if it's okay for decking it'd be okay for furniture. Am I off base? Thanks.
We have a screened in covered porch that is accessible from the master bedroom.
This is the view as you walk out of the master bath...
The stairs on the lower right are for our little spoiled Westy so she can get into the bed.
You can see the deck of the newly built house in the background...
