I see that we need "some" 8/4 exotic hardwood. How much is some? Can we glue pieces together to get to 8/4? I am thinking some stripes might make my plane look cool...:icon_cool:icon_cool

Absolutely. You'll need a body ready for resawing when you come. That body should be 2.5" wide 2" tall and about 12" long. I'm actually thinking of using maple and bubinga for mine. :)

You can even use a different wood for the wedge. Typically we cut it from when we remove the material for the iron bed, but there is no reason you can't do something different.

See ya,

John

 I thought this was really cool from Oakwood's albumn....

Maple & Wenge...very sharp
I was thinking...maybe after I get the hang of making a plane, trying to combine this with the style you see on the Bridge City Toolworks planes...although they are metal. So, take the above design, but combine the woods with sliding dovetails.

....so take the above with the nice sole of 1/4" or so, then sliding dovetails above that..not flush like below... just my thoughts :)

As soon as we get a new member called metalguy1975

I've never seen that site before...very nice stuff, but I had to laugh...

"[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]I'm sure you will find that my prices are very competitive. I generally charge $100-200 per inch of length...slightly more for options like ebony, etc." 1-200 per inch...that's quite a range and makes Lie Nielsen seem like a flea market plane.

Heheheheheh, don't bump me out of that one yet. That is low on my list, but I will be making an infill plane sometime. :) Whether a kit or from scratch I haven't decided yet. Of course there is no reason we couldn't get together build our infills together for the first time. It would be kind of fun. :)

Re: 2 spots left for April 1st Class!

Do you need any more class clowns??? Cuz if you do (and if you discount re-takes) I know of at least three who could offer their services.
