    Nice legs.....

Radio on : "she's got legs, and she knows how to use them" gotta love the great bearded ones. We'll it's been awhile for posting, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy. I decided I'd do a personal study in leg design to get a better feel for leg shaping and proportions. So I cut out some...

    Lock Miter Bit Exercise (Legs)

I'm not sure if this is any improvement over splined miters. But I thought I'd give it a try and pass my experience on to you. First off, I can make splined miter legs in a third of the time that this takes. Second, I rarely get fine edge tear-out on a T/S. After seeing the tear out on my setup...

    Leveling devise for workbench legs?

I have dug out the Popular Woodworking Oct 2008 edition to add to my growing list of projects, a workbench. While thinking about how to make it work on my concrete floor, I was wondering if anybody ever used mechanical leveling screws in the bottom of each leg to adjust the workbench prior to...

The after class shaping part 2 1/2 -the front legs

Worked on the front legs of the rocker today, and I must say this has been the hardest process yet. The starting point was on the right and off the grinder form is on the left: Once off the grinder had to use a #8 carving chisel to "bring out the round half" of the leg-the part that's not in...

Maloof Rocker-After Class shaping Part 2-The back legs

Well here's what the chair looked like after shaping the rockers: The 1st task was to mark what areas to avoid in shaping and to take the chair apart (this is like the 100th or so time it's come apart):tinysmile_tongue_t: Here's what the before leg looks like: Then I marked the bottom around...

    Squaring legs with hand tools

So, I have 4 legs made out of jatoba, and they are nice and flat and straight. They are ~1 3/4" thick, made of 2 pieces (about 1 3/4" x 7/8" each) glued together. I just realized that the sides are not square to each other. Does anyone have advice on the best way to fix this with hand tools...

    Straight square table legs

I am being asked to make the understructure for a marble table top. The requestor is adamant that the legs be straight and square. No taper, no bead, no flutes, no detail. IMHO, that's ugly. But then again, if beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then taste is in the mouth of the requestor...

Spade Foot desk legs trials and tribulations

Happy Holidays to all NCW's, Thought I'd show everybody my latest attempt at learning the trade. I read with interest last month the Fine Woodworking article on decorative table legs and thought I'd give the spade foot desk leg a try on the desk I was building for my wife for X-mas. The 1st...

    Queen Anne Style legs anyone?

Can anyone tell me how to make Queen Anne style legs? I mean the ones that curve down to a lion's claw. I understand the lion's claw portion has to be carved in. I was more curious about how to cut out the template.

    Table apron to legs joinery

So far I have seen M &T joinery used for table apron to legs. But tonight I was watching The Router Workshop and they used sliding dovetails instead. They didn't give a reason. That made me remember that I have seen or read somewhere about using sliding dovetails for this type of joinery, but I...
