Here is the latest update on the workbench I started LAST March. The sapele top is about finished - just have to attach it and mount the vise. I glued up the wormy maple base and routered a chamfer on the edges and in the dog holes. I also need to build the storage boxes for the middle and figure out what I want to do for shelves on the bottom.

I hope to finish up this week - thanks for looking!

And the best part ... I got my shelf space back! (haha!) It's been a long road coming, but that bench actually looks like a workbench now! The that oiled top looks SWEET! Now get to work on those trays and get that vise installed!

I plan on being in the shop all day, so call me if you want to stop by.

Nice looking bench, Brian!:icon_thum Looks like it won't be too much longer.

Mine is still on the stump next to Fred's:slap:

Don't forget the final pics!

Great looking bench there Brian. Only thing I see wrong is that it's gonna be too pretty to get all covered in sawdust and other stuff. Guess ya just gonna hafta make a dining table out of it. Ya done that one proud my friend, most definitely. :icon_thum

Wow, that is a gorgeous bench, I've never seen a workbench top made from Sapele before. Any specific reason you used that, other than "you had a boatload of it"?

Pretty much the "boatload" reason. I had a bunch of that thick stuff lying around - thought I would put it to use... same with the wormy maple base.

Re: Workbench update - vise install pics

Here is the Rockler 9" quick release vise I installed Monday. I set up a jig so I could router the recess easily.

I then attached the vise, and cut and installed the jaws...

With the jaws... just need to add tung oil.
