Anyone know where badland root wood which is teak was salvaged from? I have a neighbor who has a coffee table that she paid $150 for and was curious as to where the wood came from? I just went online and found it to be very expensive and appears that the furniture is made from roots. Just wondering if anyone knew where it was salvaged from. Apparently the logs have also started to appear on the market. One comment I found said it was the hardest wood in the world. Curious

Most of the Teak (Tectona grandis) grows in South and Southeast Asia, specifically Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Most of that root wood comes from harvested Teak plantations. Teak works well but has a blunting effect on edged tools due to a high silica content. I doubt the root wood is the hardest in the world as Lignum vitea rates at 4500 on the Jenka scale and Teak rates around 1000-1500 depending on species. In my experience root wood is not as hard as the main trunk wood.
