    Advice needed for mirror frame

I'd like some advice on the construction details for a mirror frame I'm making. The frame is a basic stile and rail frame, containing a recessed mirror. The mirror is 30" x 36" x 3/16" so I was going to make the frame using 3/4" walnut with inside dimensions of 29.5" x 35.5", allowing for a...

    Picture frame measurements

A spin-off of the recent thread posted by Lorraine Hughes in this forum. A couple of members suggested "The Picture Frame Guide". It contains ready made tables for measuring the stock for the frames based upon frame size, stock width, and rabbet dimensions. So...I got curious and that's...

    Face frame beading advice needed

I would like to add a bead to the inside edges of my cabinet face frames. I plan to use pocket screws for assembly. These will be cherry cabinets with a clear finish. I have read several articles about how to do it. They all look pretty time consuming. So far it looks like I might as well just...

Hi all, Got a design question. My wife and I have been talking about building a new coffee table and came up with the following design, made from maple, walnut and cherry. View image in gallery I like the thought of having the solid maple/cherry panel within a mitered walnut frame. My...

    Mitered Frame ?

I am probably over thinking this a little, but............ When cutting mitered frames, we all know that the two horizontal and the two vertical pieces of the frame must be the exactly the same length. In the past, when working with frames of roughly 5 x 7, 8 x 10, 11 x 14 etc. (standard photo...

    Need Help With A Frame

A friend has asked me to make a frame for a very old 'painting'. It's about 11by 15, and here's the issue. The painting/reproduction is attached behind a convex glass. The curvature goes to the edges. Also, the glass being very old, is wavey. I'm very unsure how to proceed, the piece is very...

    Face frame attachment

What is the best way to attach a bookcase faceframe to the solid walnut carcase. There will be divided light doors attached so I am not sure glue only is the best way. I have a biscuit cutter but that seems like overkill, any suggestions would be appreciated. Rick

    Table frame & dowels

My wife's grandfather built a coffee table about 30 years ago. It is a very simple design: Four metal legs and a 2'x5' top constructed of plywood covered with Formica/ laminate. It has held up well, but it's too modern of a look for my taste. View image in gallery View image in gallery...
