Refinishing old poplar hutch must stain - please help
I am refinishing an old kitchen hutch top that was originally made from mostly poplar with hard pine shelves and a few minor pieces of trim from oak. I need to lighten the old wood and even it out some. I plan on using oxalic acid for that. Any tips you can provide for that is also welcome... -
Dyeing wood with RIT dyes?
RIT dyes, typically thought of for fabric, have been used in dyeing wood. It is supposed to let the grain show. I know that it's water-based, so I'd need to raise the grain first. Has anyone used RIT dyes in their woodworking? -
Carrier for Transtint Dyes

Anybody work with wood dyes
Does anybody have any experience working with wood dyes? Recommendation re: brands (assuming there are more than one)? Suggestions about how to use - what not to do? For clarification - I want to color pieces of a puzzle in primary colors. I still want to see the grain, just want the color. -

Problems using alcohol based Transtint dyes
I've dissolved the dye in denatured alcohol and both sprayed and wiped it, but I'm getting a lot of "spotting" and streaking from what looks like the solvent evaporating too quickly. The problem is that I'm having a heck of a time getting rid of these and getting the color on four different... -
wood dyes and glue
I have a tendency to acquire info for future projects FAR in advance of starting them. On that note, can wood that has been dyed be glued without difficulty using CA or PVA or do I need to mask off glued areas like I would do with traditional stains ? Thanks :wsmile: -
Using dyes...?
