I'd like to share a project I've had in mind for a while now.

Sadly, imagine the scenario.....

"Its 9:23pm, you are alone in your detached workshop. You've just cut off a finger. What do you do?"

That is the scary sales pitch.

I'm envisioning is a hands on meeting featuring an EMT, Rehabilitation Specialist and a Doctor/Surgeon who can speak to lacerations and worse.

Possibly also someone from the Woodworking industry, SawStop comes to mind.

Partnership may also be found with the regional woodworking stores/vendors.

I'd like to work with our fellow woodworking organizations including, but not limited to:
- Western NC Woodworkers Association
- Triangle Woodworkers Association
- Hillsborough Orange Woodworkers

I think we could be looking at multiple events and a video of the presentation to reach the broadest audience possible.

To keep on target, this is not about safety practices or accessories. Its about what to do in the event of injury.

This includes who to call, what to do with a severed digit, how to stop the flow of blood and a relevant first aid kit.

I've spoken with Doug and Scott, they are supportive of this project.

Before I reach out to other groups, I wanted to get your first impressions and thoughts.

Jim

First, "What do you do?" I have a 2 way radio on me at all times. But if I cut all my fingers off???????

I know we have some fire fighters on board but how about EMS? They could be a great help in putting an education package together. I am sure Andy can help find us one if needed.

Probably 9 out of 10 people I know are fire, police, EMS, nurses, doctors, or something in these fields.
I can work with any of several groups in the area to come up with a "not what if - but when; and how bad" video.
It wouldn't be hard to do anything from immediate care, first responder, EMS, air transport, ER, surgical, through occupational rehab or anywhere in between sort of thing.
We want to recommend first and always that someone takes an approved first aid class, preferably through a group such as the American Red Cross or similar.
Let me know and I'll do whatever I can. If you need contacts in other areas of the state, I know lots of people~

Thanks for the offer Andy !!!! :notworthy:

I'll be in touch :)

My next step is to get a rough proposal together and start "shopping" it around.

Thanks!

Not to hi-jack your idea but it got me thinking;
it would be easy to do the same with fire extinguisher use.
You can't beat hands on training, but a step-by-step how to would put some information out there as well.

Great idea in my book. You know if we can be successful with these they might be a great presentation to bring to a future Klingspor show or any other WW shop.
