Veneer question

I have no idea.:dontknow::icon_scra I guess it would depend a lot on species and shrinkage rate. Also it would depend on the size of the veneer sheet and how you could handle it during drying. I know that shop sawn dry veneer should be an 1/8" thick or less so it's movement is negligible. So you might have to do your back math up from there considering shrinkage rates and drying stability (how much will need to be surfaced off to get consistent stock).

Jeff, when I researched this issue for my business, I discovered that commercial veneer (cut veneer) is typically cut at 1/42". Most resawn veneer is sawn between .090 and .120 and then sanded to about .060 (1/16").

It's cut at 1/42" now, but I'm fairly sure that it used to be cut at 1/28".
