This weekend I did a little (very little) house cleaning in the shop and threw away some partly used bottles of glue (Titebond II amd III) because they were at least a year old. Did I waste the glue or do the right thing. I've been burned by trying to use old finishes and was afraid to try this stuff on my next project.

No expert but I do believe I once read that wood glue (tilebond type and CA) has a shelf life of 1 year once opened. Now CA will keep much longer if kept in the frig. Just don't put it on your corn flakes by mistake.

I believe the Titebond PVA glues are more temperature sensitive than age sensitive. I have Titebond II and III that is more than 2 years old in a workshop that seldom gets much colder than 50F in the winter. Even after 2+ years they still behave like new glue and give strong bonds.
