I'm new to using hide glue, good news is I can mix without too much trouble.

My question, it seems to setup really quickly when I spread it. Pretty much before I can rub two bits of wood together (under 30 seconds). Is it due to the cold weather?

Any suggestions on how to address its use in the bitterly cold winter months?

Jim

p.s. My dog LOVES hide glue drips.

In my college days I worked in a factory that did book binding with hot glue. The glue came in 20 lbs blocks that wiggled like jello. Anyway we added water to the hot hide glue tanks to slow the drying down.

I have been using hide glue but its been a tough go. I get the glue plenty hot ( not above 140 though), work fast, and keep a hot iron nearby to reheat the parts if necessary. Even then if its a big glue up I go back to yellow glue.

I know what you mean....our cats look at me like a big pork chop when I come back in from using hide glue.
