Is the 2 speed function on this planer, electrical or mechanical?

Another words when you change speeds (while machine is running) does it speed up/down via the motor speed hence electrical ?

Or

Does this switching method change the orientation of blades,etc...?

When I switched the speed function switch I hear no discernable change in blade speed. Im wondering if I received a defective planer.

Thanks in advance
Matt

My understanding is it changes the speed of the feed rollers. so you would not hear a speed change:dontknow:

That's correct. The blades rotate at the same speed either way. The roller slows down so that you essentially get more cuts per inch as the board passes the blades. So you would not hear any difference when changing speeds but you will see a noticable difference in the feed rate of boards as they pass through the planer. :icon_thum

BTW, I love my Dewalt 735 :eusa_danc

Woodnick & Badabing,

Thanks, after your posts, I looked at rollers while switching speeds and that is exactly what is happening. Pretty ingenious really!

Bada, I'm glad to hear you like yours, I can't wait to really "put the wood" to it! :rotflm: And plane some boards!:rolf:

This site is awesome!
