I posted a few weeks ago asking about wax finishes. Well I messed around with the top of this table to long and got fustrated so I just started over.

Finish is a bit of oil. Sealed with shelllac. 3 coats of lacquer. THIN coat of wax

Dang! The underside even looks like something I'd be pretty proud of for a table top! Really nice work and design, Pete.

That's one fine coffee table. I love the bookmatch veneers and the stiles between them add a lot of style. What are the woods you used?

Pete,

Super nice table...I really like the top and the gentle curve of the legs. Great job.

I got the burl veneered top at a flea market ($14.00). I cut it down to size, added the inlays and made the base and legs. The base is Jatoba. Legs and aprons are joined with loose tenons. I shaped the legs before cutting the mortices. Bad idea. Made thinks much more difficult than it should have been. The inlayed strips are Jatoba and the center squares are walnut. The top is edged with wenge veneer. I used contact cement to apply the veneer (hope it lasts).

Thanks for thanks for the comments :)

jeff...

Pete, I think you may have found my cat dusty. If he has a crook at the end of his tail that's him. I'm glad he found a good home and all this time I though he ran off to find a female cat.
