1830's Antique J. Kellogg All Boxwood Plow Plane - $450 (Shelby, NC)

For sale is a J. Kellogg all wood plow plane with a #5 Greaves blade.
There's a small crack in one of the thread supports that's been there for over 35 years and has not gotten any bigger.(See photo)
The stamp on the end reads "J. Kellogg", "Amherst.MS", "M. Winslow".
The J. Kellogg plant moved from Amherst, Mass. to Kelloggville. Mass. in 1839 so this plane was made before 1839.
The asking price is $450.00 obo

I agree it is rare to find, but it is definitely too rich for my blood. $450 for a hand plane like this??? I would be afraid to use it. For that matter, I couldn't say whether it is a good deal or not. Looks to be in good shape, but what it is worth is what I don't know.
