Found these today in a local antique shop - all for 20% off their prices. Total cost was just $61 OTD. The marking gauge looks like it’s made of ebony(?)...
Wow! Thanks for the reference. One of these planes has a Moulson Bros blade made of Cast Sheffield Steel. The other has no marks but sharpened up fine.Pretty good explanation by the English Woodworker, since you have a paired Hollow and Round set, I'd use the back of the plane for raising the blade versus the top as he shows. I have a small plane hammer from Lee Valley that I use with my hollows and rounds.
Those planes took some time to sharpen and adjust to make usable - thought they were a mistake to buy at first but will add some nice hand done roundover planing versus using the router. Still looking for a pair of matching left and right hollow/round planes to try on moulding...pricey stuff.Quite a deal there for some really nice tools, I'm jealous
