Larry,

I work in Greensboro and live in Walnut Cove, I'd be happy to help. And will even accept payment if you insist. But, will be just as happy to help for free.

Larry,

You will likely get many references to look at, but here are two that I have found useful. Much of the setup/tuneup depends on the model and style of your equipment, but the basic principals are the same.

These come from the Wood Whisperer (Mark Spagnolo). There are many others out there in cyberworld...

Tablesaw video: http://thewoodwhisperer.com/episode-55-tablesaw-setuptuneup-pt-1/ and http://thewoodwhisperer.com/episode-56-tablesaw-setuptuneup-pt-2/

Check the manuals

Often the manuals will have directions for alignments, and the many brands and models lend to various designs. Older manuals can be often be found online.

If the other resources don't help fully, you may want to post what saws, make and model, you have and someone here can probably help with the details. Alignment may very well improve your saws, but depending on what you have, there may be a couple of other improvements that might help as well.

I'm going over Saturday to check the saws and make any needed adjustments.

Mike, thank you for all you do for the members of NCWW. It is a gift that you have and are willing to share. Many folks here benefit from your kindness!!

I got to Larry's about 10 am, he has a nice shop, very well organized and very clean. The table saw was out of alignment about .007 inch. We had to get the handbook out to adjust it, I had never worked on a SawStop before. It is a very robust and well engineered machine. I like the way it adjusts, very simple and direct, once you know how it works. We got it within .001 and tested on a scrap of cherry. Nice clean cut and only a very small burn where I hesitated. Larry said it is much improved.

The miter saw is off a tenth of a degree from square but I am afraid I would make it worse with any adjustment. It is just enough to be annoying but not enough to really affect the cut in any significant way. We decided to leave it alone.

Glad to meet another local wood worker and hope to get together again. Larry is a much better wood worker than he let's on and also builds some of the finest fishing rods in the State.

No pictures, sometimes you just have to respect a man's privacy.
