These are my 1st pens. Sorry for the bad image but I scanned these.

They look great to me. I like the forms and choice of wood. How long did you have to wait for the Purpleheart to turn back to purple?...I've got one that I want to send out but want to make sure it's looking right before it goes.
What type of finish did you use?

Looks like you are off to a good start.
Reproduction from a scan is pretty good also.

put the PH pen in the sun for a bit you will be amamzed how fast the color will change, an hour or two maybe less.

After the turning the Purpleheart was dead brown, placed it in the sun for appox 4 hours and it turned the color you see. As for the finish, I'm still playing around but so far I sand thru 1200 grit, put on a coat of shellac to fill the pores and then use Shelawax and then last a coat of Carbunba Wax,all applyed while still on lathe.
