    Made Some Shavings Today

Finally got some time off to be used specifically as some me time. After a couple of days of some trial and error, of which the utterance of certain sounds is purely coincidental, and accompanied by a few interruptions, and taking the time to cruise a site recommended by Froglips. With thanks to...

    I Made Some Shavings!

After a couple false starts I finally finished sharpening the #3. Not quite sharp enough to shave my arm, but it did a decent job on some test cuts in pine and poplar. :gar-Bi It cut about as well as a #4 I was comparing it to. Along the way I learned I am not all that good freehand, so may...

What do you do with your sawdust/wood shavings?

I've found a great use for the sawdust; making firestarters. I take an empty egg container, fill it with sawdust, and pour melted wax from an old candle over it. After it solidifies you can break off little half egg firestarters. They work great. I have not found a use for the plane shavings...

a use for hard wood shavings...

Wonderful for starting the campfire. Seems a bit sinful to burn mahogany shavings however a few handfuls and there is no looking back. This is from tonight. A nice crisp fall night for a campfire. Cheers View image in gallery

Anyone else have trouble with soft wood turning into "straws" when you plane it...and then clogging up the planer outlet and/or hose? I was tuning up my new-ish Woodtek 15" planer yesterday. I have a very similar planer and have never had trouble with shavings clogging, as long as I remember to...

    need wood shavings

I would like to find a good source for wood shavings to go in a horse stall. I want something larger than the dust that comes out of my table saw and 12 inch planer. If anybody kinda close has a bigger planer that makes a lot of chips, I'd like to see what we can work out. I can use a...

    Cedar shavings as mulch

Is this stuff safe for plants or bushes? I've got a bag left over from my daughter's guinea pig days. Thanks in advance, Joe

    Burnish with shavings!

I recently stripped a bad finish off a table with turned legs. Lots of beads and coves. Not easily sanded. So, I tried to burnish the legs with shavings (from my fathers lathe). Much like you see turners do with a piece spinning on the lathe. It works like a dream. The rough surface is...
