Monroe Habitat ReStore has a good many Craftsman mortising chisels from 1/4" thru 1/2" for $3 each. I didn't see but 1 bit & I got it. They're located on Hwy 74, west of Griffin Motors.
They also have a good many taps in sizes from 9/16" to 7/8" as well as dies up to 1". I think they were $3...
My immediate goal is to make mortises with my plunge router and use chisels to clean the edges.
My long term goal is to use just hand chisels for all mortising needs.
I want really good quality chisels which can last a lifetime.
My next purchase is going to be a set of mortising chisels.
I...
My bro in Atl. call and wants me to go get this if he decides to bid on it and He,s closer to it than me. So looked on Fleabay and looked it up on their search and lo and behold this thing looks good for its age. So I sent an e-mail to the e-bayer and she said it was in her Grandfathers barn for...
The hold down clamps and lever are a little weak, but it's better than using a drill press attachment. It would be hard to beat at twice the price.

.... still got some of Uncle Sam's money to burn and thinking about a good middle of the road mortising machine. General, light work so I don't need top of the line.
Recommendations anyone?
Could I get an opinion on Harbor Freight's Central Machinery Mortising machine? It sells for $130.00 and cuts 3/8", 1/2", and 1/4". I have a HF 1hp dust collector and have had no problems with it. I see mortising machines running between $250.00 and above. I would put it on my Christmas list...
I've got a 16-560 from Woodcraft that I've only cut about 3" of hinge mortise before I saw a problem. Didn't know when I bought it that it was special purpose for PC jig. Paid about $30.00, will take $15.00 plus any postage. See quote:
Hi Joe,
Thanks for contacting me on this. The 16-560 is...
Last year I bought a mortising machine. It was a cheep one from Harbor Freight. I really didn't expect too much from it, but at $99.00 bucks I thought that it would be better than hand cutting mortises, although I will have to admit that I usually find other ways to join wood together beside...
Hi all. Well I thought this was pretty slick and figured I'd share it with you all. I'm in the process of making a small table for the living room. I was at the point of making the test cuts for the mortises. I'm using the delta mortising kit for a drill press and I'm not a huge fan of the fence...
At the Charlotte Woodworking Show, several North Carolina Woodworker.net members took advantage of a great buy on the English-made small plunge router, the Trend T3, for $70 (Here's a review). I got one for making mortises in rails and stiles for cabinet doors, but needed to make a jig to hold...
Today I went to Harbor Freight to look at their mortising machine model 35570. It was on sale from $169 reduced to $99. Now I usually won't buy a tool this expensive from their catalog with out giving it a through hands on and eyeball inspection.
I looked it over and it appeard to be OK for the...
Buy a minimum of $100 from Hartville Tool ( www.hartvilletool.com ) in Feburary and they will give you (as in free:mrgreen: ) a choice of one of five different sizes of German made MHG Mortising chisels. $27.99 to $31.99 in value. Mine in on the way.8-)
what does everyone think of this from Sears/Craftsman. does anyone recognize the manufacturer? What quality and durability can be expected from it? thanks.
If anyone can find a hidden knot when chiseling hinge mortises, that would be me. Thanks to D L for finding his copy of this plan from Shop Notes before I could find my own. I ordered an extra depth gage from RotoZip and glued a 4x4 piece of p-glass to it as a cheap substitute for a new trim...
