This was a burl wrapped around about a 3" limb. I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of it before I started.

This bowl was made using a scroll saw to cut segments, glue, sand and finish them. The design is my own free-hand drawing on a piece of poplar. After cutting a segment, I used that to get the outline of the next segment. Sanding on this bowl was tricky and took a lot of time.
My 1st attempt at a hollow form. It was a bit of trail and error and the inside could use some work. A catch threw it completely off the lathe toward the end (you can see where it hit the tool rest on the top lip).Claro Walnut 3" high, 7 3/4 wide with the opening 3". This and all my turnings so...
I have always heard two things on how to turn a bowl correctly.
#1 leave no signs of how you attached it to the lathe.
#2 Finish the inside just as good as the outside.
How do you sand and finish a hollow form where you cant get to it?

I got this form stuck in my head this spring and seemed to turn every other form like it this spring. This is the first to be finished. It is silver maple just over 10" tall.

This is my first "multipiece" turning. The form is Walnut, about 3" is Dia x 2" tall with a Ambrosia Maple collar and American Holly finial I dyed black. The finial is 2 3/4" tall.

I've roughed out around thirty bowls and HF's over the last month. Evey time I get a tallish end grain blank this form keeps coming out in the end. I plan on returning them when dry and might even cut the top at a slight angle on a few. I hope this shape sells, but if they don't I guess they...
