Submarine / Dolphin Insignia Intarsia

Here is the second Intarsia project I did – and was made for my brother inlaw. I made the pattern in October of last year, started cutting on it in November, and completed it in December.

It was constructed of Ambrosia Maple, Holly for the wave crest, Ebony for the eyes, and Yellow Heart for the spotlight. The name plaque is suspended by aluminum tubes brushed to match the name tag. I had to make holders for the fish bodies to facilitate, the contour sanding the body to a taper, and to keep all the scales in order, can you imagine if I dropped them ! ? ;-) Also at the very end I recut one piece, it was really alright but was not the affect I was looking for… Can you tell which piece is different in the final project?
