They make this stuff for an outdoor finish. The original stuff is just paraffin dissolved in a solvent carrier.

When I lived on the coast, everything would rust. I kept a spray bottle with Thompson's in it handy. Anytime I used anything steel, I would spray it before putting it away. Shovels, saw blades, planes, knives, table saw tables, rulers, anything.

The solvent evaporates quickly, and leaves a microscopic wax coating on the metal. The coating is not wet, and is not thick, and does not stain wood, and will keep the rust boogers away until you use the tool again.

So is this what I should put on my table saw, jointer and planer to protect the steel?

That is what I did.
Get the original stuff. They also have a newer product with some other stuff in it, and I wouldn't use that.

I know this will sound bad but when it comes to Thompson products, I wouldn't put them on even my worst enemies deck or tools. Stick with a good automotive paste wax.
