Hello Woodturner's,

I have looked everywhere for a 5" 3-4 jaw chuck with stepped jaws that are reversible that either fit a 1x8 TPI or a 1 1/4x8 TPI?

I found this chuck at grizzly, but it is too small and there 5" version I am not sure there jaws are reversible? And I don't like th 4-jaw 5" chuck grizzly has as I don't like the jaws that come with it. :eusa_doh:

I would rather just buy the jaws and put them on my Barracuda 2 chuck, but can't find them? The Barracuda 2 does have flat jaws that come out, so I could just swap those out with a stepped jaw set if I could find them.

Any Help in finding these stepped jaws?

Here is a better look at the jaws I would like, just left of the chuck/on the chuck, of course I would need 4 for the Barracuda 2 chuck.

Based on the way the Barracuda chuck is made and how the jaws attach, I don't think reversible jaws would work on them.

Well Darn it~! Ithought because the flat jaws come out, that the other jaws would work? Oh well

How about this one:

http://www.grizzly.com/products/H8049 Don't wan't independently adjustable jaws, to much to think about :gar-La;

Or this one along with the appropriate insert:
http://www.grizzly.com/products/3-Jaw-Chuck/G1194 I like this one, just not the price, but may have to be the one.

http://www.grizzly.com/products/Insert-1-x-8-TPI-RH-Thread/G3163 So that's what I would need for one of their chucks :eusa_doh: Thanks~!

And this one, again with the insert ordered separately:
http://www.grizzly.com/products/G1082
Again don't like how the jaws moved independently :eusa_doh:.

Thanks a bunch~!

What about this Chuck ? What insert would I need? It's a plain back chuck, and there is not a lot of info of what I need. Wish Grizzly had the inserts that fit each chuck below to make it easier. Also I wish it told you what the min, and max chucking abilities it had.

If there are other brands that people have used and like I would love to hear about your experience.

Thanks a bunch~!

That 9834 chuck is a metal working chuck that has a 'plain' back. What that means is you have to buy the additional backing plate with the correct threads for your lathe. From the Grizzly pictures it looks like the woodworking chucks are a lot thinner than the metal working ones.

Metal working ones look to be at least twice as thick as their woodworking counterparts.

In metalworking you typically want the 4 jaws to work independently so you can hole odd shaped things. With a dial indicator you can supposedly center up the 4 jaws on a round object pretty easily. Many metal working guys only use a 4 jaw, even for round things.

I only know metal working chucks and they can be found in many places including:

www.use-enco.com
www.traverstool.com
www.mscdirect.com
www.shars.com

The 1st 3 have all levels of quality/brands. Shars is mainly import home hobbiest quality. Then again you probably won't be working to thousanths of an inch and don't need repeatable .0001" or greater accuracy.
