Spalted Maple screw clamp

DaveO is the only guy I know who uses spalted maple for a screw clamp, here's proof :lol:

:lol: :lol: :lol: That was a cheap set that I got a Northern Tool, the spalting was a bonus to me, but probably why they were cheap at Northern Tool.
Did you see the handscrew article in the latest Pop. WW'ing (Feb '07), I would love to make one with wood screws, they look so cool.

Dave, I'm sorry I couldn't help myself. I see a pen blank, not a screw clamp. Least it's not a rocket this time :-D

Jimmy Carter made some handscrew clamps with wood screws that was featured in a magazine a while ago. He received the cutter with which he cut the threads as a 'full honorarium' for a speaking commitment he had. A pretty accomplished woodworker, I wonder if he had a shop in the White House?
