Does anyone have a good recommendation for wood screws that you can buy locally? I know this sounds like a weird question but I have been looking at Mc Feely’s http://www.mcfeelys.com/ square drive screws online, but can not bring my self to pay $8.00 in shipping for $24 in screws. I am looking for a screw that has about the same hardness of a drywall screw, but not as brittle. I also don’t want the traditional tapered wood screws that always seem to have really soft heads, and shallow threads.

Recommendations?

Ditto on Steve's suggestion. They have a good selection of combo drive (square and phillips in one) in a variety of sizes. Unlike drywall screws from the BORG, I have yet to break one.

I purchase all of my fasteners from Custom Service Hardware in Wisconsin -- they carry a broad variety, their prices are very competitive and delivery is swift. Their assembly and face frame screws are very good.
