Jackleg. When we lived in Pa. we hayed with a guy and if it got rained on and wasn't any good for horses we took it by truck to the mushroom farm and I guess they mixed with horse and cow poo.

Yep, they used to make the rounds of the horse tracks up that way regularly. After the stuff "cured" a while, they grind it into a fine material, sterilize it, and put it into the mushroom houses into beds. As many as 5 beds (really wooden boxes) are on tiers like tobacco barns.

They sow a "spore" on the beds and in a short while it looks like spider webs spreading across the beds. Not long after, ---- blossoms as the folks up there call them.
