New Lathe Stand

I was thinking nearly the same thing, DaveO.... Dan's skills, both with a camera, and woodworking, are nicely shown off with every pic he posts. Neither of these stands would look at home in my humble, messy shop. they are much too clean and neat looking.

Thanks Dave, and Dolan I hope you’ll forgive the partial hijack here. It was not my intent and your stand is truly fine cabinet grade whereas I just made use of some scrap melamine.

I’m a firm believer of dry runs, dry fits, mock-ups or whatever pre-visualization I can come up with before committing. I shimmed the lathe bed up and down, forward and backward just as Dolan did before settling on the height and location of the pier blocks I used to elevate the lathe. I even turned a spindle to see if I had a comfortable match with my height and stance.

Here are a couple more photos of the blocks and the simple dimensional lumber used for the base and a detail of the leveling hardware.
