FWIW, I apologize in advance if anyone here has been getting a bunch of garbage emails from me. Seems we got some kind of spambot that came in and invaded the works here. Not only the PC but the wife's laptop as well. We've spent all day:BangHead: downloading fixes and trying the get rid of this :crossedlips: :crossedlips: :crossedlips::kamahlitu:qright5: thing. Hopefully, it's gone never to rear its ugly head again. Mods..if you feel this needs to be moved to another forum feel free to do so. I started to put it in the "off topic" forum but then thought that since some had opted out of that, they wouldn't see this notice and might not be aware there is this threat out there. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up. This was definitely the correct forum to use.

Everyone that I know is getting hit with the fake anti-virus scams. I use NOD32 as my primary anti-virus/anti-malware package; it has thrown up several alerts recently when on the web. Nothing got through but the alerts tell me that there is a lot of this malware out there these days. I don't know if you know this or not but the Google Chrome browser runs each tab individually in a sandbox. At this time, Chrome is the most secure browser on the market with Safari being the most vulnerable. Firefox is supposed to be releasing a sandboxed browswer in the near future, though we don't know how effective it will be or when it will be released. If you download the Chrome Canary built, it also runs it add-ons in a sandbox. The sandbox keeps malware from accessing core functions and components such as the registry was well as not letting it save itself to your hard drive. It's pretty slick.

I got nailed twice a month apart on our neighborhood yahoo group and had to reformat the laptop. I was steaming! Needless to say, I don't go there anymore and I miss all neighborhood anouncements. These things are nasty.

You're right about the nasty part.:evil3: So far the only thing we've found to be able to ferret it out and kill it was Stopzilla. Like I said, so far...........:eusa_pray it seems to have worked.

@ Cathy,
I wondered why you sent me the Canadian Viagra sales special via email:rotflm:

Seriously, it happened. That's why these worms are so aggravating. I never stop to wonder about an email from a friend who never sends me junk!
