If I use shellac as a seal coat can I forgo a vinyl sealer? That is what I did on the cabinet doors.

I'm going to order the Mohawk DuraCoat precat.

Those cabinet doors look great so your process seems to work fine.
I don't know about shellac. I haven't used that in decades nor have I used a product sold as a "sealer" for decades. Maybe others will have more experience with those products.

OK so I called Mohawk and spoke to tech support today. He said lacquer is OK over shellac, no vinyl sealer needed. Which I guess I already figured.

But he surprised me a little when he said vinyl sealer is lacquer. This made me think of whoever said they use thinned lacquer as a sealer coat.

Here is my process, materials all from the local SW store.

For this small job, disposable 9oz spray cup on gun. 9oz Pre-Cat, 1 1/2 teaspoons of catalyst mixed into the spray cup and ready to go.

Two coats, 30 minutes after 1st coat a light scuff sanding with a medium sanding sponge, 2nd coat follows. Another 30 minutes drying and we are done.

Cleaning afterwards is a few minutes just rinsing the gun internals and disposing the cup.
