I'm doing a shelf for the Y corp. office that has to have supports (knees) under it. Shelf is 30 inches wide, by 120 inches long. To save on expenses, I'm using melamine and edge banding to do the knees. Despite owning a couple of "double sided melamine blades," I was still getting some chip out on the bottom side. Well today, I tried to score the cut first with the blade elevated no more than 1/3 the thickness of the sheet, and then finish cut with blade fully elevated. Chip out was a non factor. Because knees are cut at a 45, I made a cross cut sled, and added some plywood for fences to keep pieces at a 45. I put a couple of toggle clamps on each fence to hold sheet in place. Worked great! To trim edge banding, I'm using a "bastard cut file." Works as well as my "laminate file."

Sometimes a strip of blue painter's tape along the cut line will suffice.... quick and easy...
