I had been seeing these 2 pieces of wood sitting on top of a roadside drain for 2 weeks..I finally said they must be waiting on me...They were greener than I thought...Anyhow they appeared to be oak but Ive never turned any green wood and never made a mallet so I turned one . It has some checking in it on the end but so what it was free ...I coated it with anchorseal and sat it aside....... Pics in the gallery

Looks like persimmon or dogwood.

I thought to mention dogwood with it being as white as it is but Id never cut any of it either. I compared it to the dogwood tree in my yard and the bark was similar...probably is dogwood ! Thanks !!
