The use of a feature like that covered in this article is not an original idea -- our own DavidF (David Fenton) had this beautiful entry in the 2007 Calendar Contest that featured Jordan Lake in the top of his beautiful Demilune Table. You can find more beautiful work in his Gallery. David is a Brit who was in the US for several years and an NCWW mainstay until he returned to England about five years ago.

I assume the cachet of Greg Klassen's pieces is that the form is (pseudo) natural - derived from the 'found' nature of the materials, e.g. one could not create a duplicate of any of Klassen's work. The forms are simple and harmonious.

It reminds me of Doug Stowe's style. Representative example:
