I stained a frame I built using red oak with a beautiful blue minwax water-based stain. Where I blew it was that I just finished it off with Minwax Polyurethane. It's an oil-based product. What can I expect to happen to the finish on the frame? I applied two coats with a 320 grit sanding in between.

So, what's the problem? Oil over water is fine, water over oil won't stay. I have used water based water color to stain wood and top coated with poly and it still looks like it did 30 years ago.

If it looks the way you want it great cause that's how it will be from now until you sand it off.

Mike,

It's GOT to be the pain meds I'm on. I had a root canal today. :drunken_s I see what you mean about the oil over water. Thanks for setting me straight.

It looks great to me, if this is the color you were aming for, you got it. When you see it after meds, it will look great. Nice corners/miters.
