I recently stripped a bad finish off a table with turned legs. Lots of beads and coves. Not easily sanded.

So, I tried to burnish the legs with shavings (from my fathers lathe). Much like you see turners do with a piece spinning on the lathe.

It works like a dream. The rough surface is now super smooth, almost polished.

No sanding either.

Grab a handful of shavings and squeeze them onto the leg. Then rotate around and up and down until the surface is smooth.

Thanks,
Jim
