Hey all-
Just wondering if any of the sawers out there have any figured red oak (preferebly already dried) in there stash they'd be willing to part with. I'm looking for something along the lines of curly red oak. For example see this link : http://www.curlymaple.com/pvtstk/ps2063a.jpg

Thanks for looking!

Mike M.

what you got pictured is curly (fiddleback) maple - I've cut lots of red oak and have not seen any that is that curly - not saying it's not out there - I've not seen any. the few I have cut har far less curl than that.

Thanks

Jeff-
That is actually curly red oak. Don't let the websites name fool you, they specialize in curly maple and cherry but they also have curly red oak, flame birch-and some other weird stuff. If you go to the website:
http://www.curlymaple.com/ and select "private stock" there is an "other hardwoods" section at the bottom and they have a few different sets of curly red oak. I know it exists because there are a few boards in the oak hardwood flooring in our living room (but that's from the 50's when they probably didn't care and it was more hassle to select it out than to just lay it down)
I was just posting this to see if anyone locally has seen any to gauge what a fair price would be-from your comments I guess it's pretty rare stuff!

Thanks, Mike

I have a more than a few boards in my flooring that look extremely close those your jpg example.

That picture still looks a lot like maple to me - there is some curly red oak selections that actually look like curly red oak though http://www.curlymaple.com/pvtstkother.shtml. At $12.50, $16.50 and $17.50 a BF - I'll let you know if I run across any, I could save you a little on shipping.

Thanks
