    Removing poly varnish....

Some of you might remember these tables I made last year.... Well, my 4 year old has done a real number with them. The tops are completely dented and scratched up. I want to remove the poly and start over. Whats the best chemical or process for doing this. Thanks!

Which water based poly finishes do you use?

I am used to using either the Arm R Seal & Seal a Cell or BLO/Behlens Rock Hard Varnish...all wiped on. I would like to move to water based for my next project but have not used any in the past. I was wondering what water based poly finishes you folks use, how you apply the finish and if you...

    BLO and Poly

Perhaps this is too simple a question for most folks but I've only started using BLO. Can BLO be topped with polyurethane finishes. I'm using the BLO to "pop" the grain, and now want to put a gloss poly over it. Any problems doing so? Jim

Oil based stain & water based poly compatibility

Are they compatible??? I have a project where I want the durability of poly without the off gassing, and I would like to stain it with a oil based stain that I've used for other pieces for a good match. Dave:-)

    Slow drying poly

Has anyone had any trouble with Minwax Polyurathane drying? The last two projects I've used it on has taken 3-4 days for a coat to dry. The weather here has been unusualy warm and dry. Can it be too old? I don't remember having any trouble with Minwax products before.

    Another finishing question re: poly

I started a new thread because it is a different type of question. This question is in ref to poly. I built several of those pyrex glass dish holders from a recent Wood article as Christmas presents this year. In the same issue, it talked about why poly is good for items that may be exposed...

    Quickie.. poly and ceremic

I have a friend that is finishing a table with a ceremic tile top. Can poly go over the tiles or should care be given to avoid the ceremic with the poly?

    Shellac under poly

I have some maple tables I was planning on putting a clear coat of shellac on them, followed by a couple coats of satin poly. I was reading the label on the shellac, and it said "not recommended as a sealer under ploy" or something like that. Am I getting ready to mess it all up? Any other...

    Poly Resin Pen

I finally found a few minutes to do a little turning. This is a Berea Cigar kit in Black Chrome. The material is from the first attempt at mixing poly resin, that LOML and I did a few months ago. Thanks for looking. Merry Christmas to all the great folks on NCWoodworker from our home. ken
