Thanks for all of the comments/folks - but it is a moot point now. Ten minutes of conversation and the boss decides she doesn't want painted. Now she would rahte rhave red oak to match other pieces. My typical approch is to let this decision simmer awhile before actually starting anything

Good decision, much nicer than painted and a lot less work to finish.
