One of the projects I would like to take on one day is a continuous arm Windsor chair. The engineering is impressive to me :).

As a step in that direction I recently completed a stool for my workbench that is inspired by Windsor chair construction.

The top is made from poplar and turned on the lathe to get the profile I wanted. The legs are made from the oak I had left over from my bench.

The spindle design is some amalgamation from perusing google images :)

Finish is BLO, poly, and mineral spirits blend.

No more stooping for dovetails :).

As evidenced by the blowout on the top of the seat I still have a fair amount to learn! But the nice thing about the Windsor design is they at although the mortises are angled they don't have to be perfect. Just don't bang it through before the end of the tenon is straight through :).

Not on this one :). The only flat work was the wedges for the tenons. I have used it as a small maneuverable smoother when my #4 is awkward. And I think it is my 5 yo daughter's favorite. Thanks again!

Great looking stool, Salem. Logic would say if you can build the stool, you're half way there on the chair. :gar-Bi
