The 4" piece of PVC on the bottom of the toy box slides between the two guide rails screwed to the floor. The casters, on both sides of the opening under the seat, guide the front of the toy box. They do a way, way better job of centering the box than I had ever dared to hope! My initial instinct was to use a set of ball bearing drawer slides for the box, but after seeing the prices of the drawer slides big enough for this, I came up with this solution. Now she can roll the toy box wherever she wants and it self centers back in it's home every time...and all with $20 worth of casters!
Not a piece of "fine furniture" by any means, but I'm very happy with the way it turned out.
