Upgrade for Router Table

I'm considering building my router table with a fence that attaches to the table sides rather than the more typical t-track method, such as in these examples:

Any advantages to the t-track other than a little better smoothness?

If you scroll through these pictures of my router table, you'll see I've done that. I went the easy route and enlisted two wood clamps for the task. Even with melamine-to-melamine contact from the bottom of the fence to the router table surface, it doesn't move with moderate tightening of the clamps. I'm not sure where you're going on the smoothness - adjustments of the fence are quite smooth for me and I don't see how t-track could make it any smoother.

BTW, there were plans for a side-clamp with micro-adjust in a recent Shop Notes or Woodsmith issue.
