Here area few photos of my latest shop project. I decided to build a tool cart to go under my lathe. I am short on space and this gives me a place to hold a lot of my turning tools and lathe fixtures. The cart has 5 full extension drawers and rolls on casters. It is nothing fancy. I made it from pine and plywood. I plan to add handles and a finish. So far I am pleased with the amount of storage I get. I can even store those long Easy Wood Turning tools and tubes.

I like the use of long but not tall drawers - very practical for the kinds of things to be stored here. And you won't likely end up with stuff buried under other stuff.

That's a really smart design. I've been thinking abbot under lathe storage for my Nova 1624 and it never dawned on me to make it a separate cart rather than building it onto the lathe or removing the legs and placing the lathe on a new cabinet. I really like your cart!

John, the design is just a box on wheels. I used pocket screws and glue to hold it together. The outside box dimensions are 16 inches deep, 36 inches wide, and 24 .75 inches high. The casters bring the height to 28.25 which was a problem. I used a 2x6 slab to raise the lathe to clear the cart. I could have used smaller casters but I like the 3 inch ones you see. The drawer boxes are on 14 inch slides. The pulls were cut from 2x 6 stock on the table saw and glued to the drawer fronts. I really like the look and function of the pulls. I got the idea for them from John Heintz website.

Thanks, I replaced the feet on my lathe with 3" casters mounted to each leg with a bracket. Made it both easier to move and raised it up a bit, which fit my 6'3" frame a little better -so I should be able to skip the 2x6 step.

I've not turned anything big and wobbly enough yet for the casters to be an issue vs the original feet.

You've given me some great ideas... now to find the time to implement them!
