Salvage wood from neighbors' yards after the storms; from the 17 acres of woodland behind my house; just about anywhere when it is free! I like stacking and air-drying the wood I find and / or am given by my kind neighbors. It's a win-win proposition, I help them clean up and I get to take what I want. Apple, cherry, walnut, oak, and of course, the exploding tree - bradford pear. :thumbs_up

So all I have to do is wait for the next hurricane or tornado to hit and I'm suddenly in luck?

Man, I can't wait to capitalize on such misfortune.

I found a good source on Ebay. Thanks though.

Bill, look for sawmills in your area. Or tree-cutting services. Or drive around and find a place with a lot of bradford pears-they split after they get to a certain size. I would recommend not spending much on blanks for a vessel/urn because of all the waste you will have. i don't think you can core out a vessel shape like you can a bowl.
