If you haven't seen Derek Cohen and his sharpening threads, this might be a nice introduction. Derek generally does a good job of showing how he gets a nice edge on his tools.

I do tons of scraping to avoid sanding when I can. The 112 is a great tool to use with the original blade, the heavier LN and my favorite is the toothing scraper blade for figured wood and finicky veneers.

I don’t have a 112 but I have two #80s—one with a thin Stanley blade and one with a thicker Hock blade. Both work well but I generally reach for the thin blade scraper first. It’s easier to get the right bend in the blade for me.

I’m impressed with Derek’s long shavings.
